Richard Peck, author of middle-grade classics such as The Best Man, A Year Down Yonder, and A Long Way from Chicago, has died. He was 84 years old.

Book Marks has launched and already has two partners. The literary review aggregation site says it aims to be something like film’s “Rotten Tomatoes,” but for books. The American Booksellers Association will put the widget on the IndieBound.org. As of now, the widget does not have a children’s book category.

BookExpo 2018 is coming to the Javits Center in NYC, May 30-June 1. Planners are promising a reimagined event that transforms this trade show into a new experience, bringing together all aspects of the publishing industry together under one roof. Attendees “will experience, in-person, how content creation, rights trading, retail strategy and consumer behavior will increase profit and give you the tools to succeed in today’s shifting marketplace.”

Congratulations to our own MUF contributor Patricia Heinrichs Bailey for winning an Oregon Book Award for her book The Tragically True Adventures of Kit Donovan.

The 2nd Annual Anna Dewdney Read Together Award goes to author/illustrator Dan Santat for his book After the Fall (How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again). This award is given annually to a picture book that is both a superb read-aloud and also sparks compassion, empathy, and connection. The award commemorates the life and work of author/illustrator Anna Dewdney.
