Girl to Girl–A Giveaway

GirlToGirl_BookCoverJust in time for back to school, here’s a new book on navigating some of those tricky issues the middle grade years present to girls.

From Chronicle Books: Being a girl isn’t always easy, and growing up is far from a walk in the park. This time of transition is particularly confusing without a confidante to help. Meet Sarah O’Leary Burningham, a real-life big sister here to coach preteens through all of life’s big moments, from first bras to first periods. Filled with letters and testimonials from real girls—as well as confidence-boosting advice from girls who’ve been there and myth-busting sidebars—this fun, accessible book is a must-have for every girl navigating her way through the preteen years.

The up-to-the-minute advice calls on the expertise of leading doctors, nurses, and psychologists, as well as experts in makeup, hair and style, all combined with Sarah’s friendly big-sister real-world experience and charming full-color illustrations and how-to diagrams that make it easy for girls to learn things like shaving their legs and even flossing their teeth.
Topics include:
• Finding the right bra
• How to handle getting your period
• Picking out glasses and braces
• Caring for your skin
• Creating healthy habits
• Body odor and shaving
• Dealing with cramps
• Pierced ears and nail care
• Emotional well-being
• Getting enough sleep

  1. I was just looking at these sort of books in the local bookstore. A great resource for the middle school years!

  2. This sounds perfect for my granddaughter, after I read it, of course. Thanks for a chance to win it.

  3. Sounds like a great book! I have 3 sisters (11-16) who find every talk “awkward”. This would help guide them and come to me for any questions.

  6. Hi, sounds like a great book to read and have. I have a 10 year old nice that lives with her dad and i am sure i can help them a lot by giving them both this book as a resource on how to talk and handle certain situations. i also have a daughter so i can also benefit from this book.

  8. My 12 year old niece just came to live with me. Its been tough for both of us. It seems that every day she had a new dilemma. Luckily I can still remember how tough middle school was so it helps me understand a little bit of what’s going on.

  9. My daughter is about to turn 11 and whenever any of these tropics come up in conversation she waves her hands and says can we talk about something else. I wonder if she would feel more comfortable if she could read a book like this at her own pace.

  10. Wow, Kasi–congrats! I have 3 girls and it’s a wonderful challenge.
